Day 34 • Rio Dell to San Francisco • 306 mi

I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Joe, Scott, and Will were all about 33 days late to the trip, but rode up from San Francisco yesterday to make up for it.

Heading south from Rio Dell, we ran the Avenue of the Giants, stopping in Founder's Grove for one last old-growth hike.

After a small bit of 101, we went south on 1. It heads through some tough country on its way to the coast, but the KLR made it.

The weather on the coast was perfect—sunny, warm, and with just enough wind to whitecap as far you could see.

We stopped to watch the last sliver of sun set over Point Reyes, then headed into the city to finally park the bike.

If I had booked my flight out correctly, I would have missed it (and regretted nothing).

At journey's end, the odometer read 16,204 mi, for a total trip length of 6,420 mi. I don't know where the extra ~100 miles over my calculated distance comes from; you might have your guesses.

Thus ends 34 days of hard travel. The conclusion comes at just about the perfect time—planning every move as you make it will drain you.

But for now, the bike, and I, are

Home.

Final trip mileage: 6,420 mi
