Day 23 • Watson Lake, YT to Cassiar Highway, Mile 329, BC • 352 mi
Here are the two best conversation starters in existence:
- Walking an adorable puppy
- Being on a solo motorcycle journey
Last night, Paul walked up to me at dinner. He and his buddy Dave are also doing Alaska on KLRs, but Paul had been having rear wheel problems—they'd replaced or patched his tube three or four times. Dave was on his way to Whitehorse with the rear wheel, where Yukon Yamaha put on a new tube.
I found them this morning and, as Paul had his rear wheel almost completely on, decided to join up for the Cassiar Highway, with a goal of Stewart, some 400 mi away.
About 150 mi into the day, Paul's new tube gave way. We swapped in the spare on the side of the road, and limped at 40MPH to Dease Lake.
Paul's fix was a little complicated, but he should be good to go come Monday with a different rear wheel. Dave needs to get back to work and I'm a few days behind, so we decided to lay some miles down. We exited Dease Lake around 8pm, and managed about 190 mi before camping in a turnout at around 11:30pm.
Total mileage: 352 mi
Trip mileage: 3,466 mi
