Day 3 • Katmai National Park • 340 mi (sorta)
Two wings, two floats, four blades.
Still counts.
We flew from Homer to Katmai National Park, specifically, Brooks Falls, to see the famed Alaskan Brown Bear, the coastal variant of Ursus Arctos, the grizzly. Brooks Falls is set up with multiple viewing platforms, allowing us squishy humans to hang out near the bears without bothering them I vermuch. The flight was about 1.5 hours, but that's not a huge trial in Alaska...
But sometimes you do get an audible terrain warning.
Upon landing, we had only one question: would we see bears? (Spoiler: yes)
This fine bear walked up next to the viewing platform, laid down, and rested.
So soft and fluffy.
The rangers did not recognize this mystery bear, but it brought its own approach to fishing.
Bears seen, we had the return 1.5 hr flight...
In all the kerfluffle yesterday, we completely forgot to check out Land's End at the end of the Homer Spit. Rectified!
With that checked off, it's back to our first campsite of the trip...
It'll do.
(And yes, that was taken at 10:45. Still direct sunlight! I just can't get over this.)
Now to figure out where we'll end up tomorrow!
Total mileage: 340mi but it wasn't on two wheels. Doesn't count.
Trip mileage: 223mi
