Day 2 • Anchorage to Homer • 223mi

Day 2 started with some surgery.

Poor bike's headlight was out, and the first replacement didn't fit. After a quick trip to the Kawi dealer, she was all patched up, loaded, and it was 2pm D:

Our destination was Homer, about 5-6 hours away. We needed to be there by 8. So, uh, yeah, fewer pictures than I hoped.

KLR650 thoughts:

  • it sounds a bit like a tractor
  • seems to be happiest at 3-4k RPM
  • minor head shake under emergency braking (did I mention I almost hit a moose? Well, maybe 'almost' is a strong word.)
  • with the bar risers PO put on, I can fully stand at speed. Nifty.
  • shortened brake levers drive me mad
  • I'm spoiled by my SV650 clutch pull

But then we hit Homer, and it was all worth it:
